The Mumbai Pune Expressway witnessed a landslide this morning (June 22) after more than 12 hours of heavy rain. Traffic has come to a halt and alerts across Whatsapp and other social media platforms said the road might be closed for traffic today. This video by ABP reports that the hill station of Khandala saw rainfall of 154 mm, leading to a landslide. But the Mumbai Pune Expressway is still open for traffic, and the road has been cleared after the landslide.
The Mumbai Pune Expressway landslide often sees a landslide during the monsoons that occur in Maharashtra for three months starting June every year. Usually the highest rainfall is recorded in July and August, but this year, in June itself Mumbai and areas around it witnessed a high level of rainfall.
Earlier on Friday, June 19, heavy rainfall for more than 24 hours in Mumbai saw the city coming to a standstill.
