Not just Baahubali 2 & Dangal movies but Naagin & Devon Ke Dev Mahadev TV Shows are also popular among Chinese audiences

Mythology, fiction, drama, revenge are some of the most viewed genres on television these days. Curiosity to know the result is what keep people glued to television sets. Eagerness about the climax of the story or its nail-biting sequences keeps audiences sit in front of TV for hours. While India has been makers of some of the longest running television shows, the serials have been widely watched across the globe. China is recent to follow Indian shows immensely. Other than serials, Chinese audiences also follow Indian movies. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan have a great fan following there. His ‘3 Idiots’ and was highly appreciated and watched on a large scale in the country. On Sina Weibo, Khan has 30,000 followers and his visit to China last month to promote his new film ‘Dangal’ was a grand success. Dangal saw its release in 9,000 screens this Friday in China while Baahubali 2 was released in 8,000-screens.

29-year-old Yang Buhui who works for the gaming industry has been running a volunteer group that provides Chinese subtitles for Indian TV dramas. She came up with the group because of her favorite TV serial ‘Devon Ke Dev Mahadev’ (DKDM) which had a total of 820 episodes. While the Chinese audience is used to watching dramas from different countries including the US, South Korea, United Kingdom and Japan, Indian content is new to them. While, as per a recent report, Indian dramas like  ‘Mahabharat’, ‘Devon Ke Dev Mahadev’ and ‘Nagin’ have a huge fan following in China. As per PTI, a state-run Global Times quoted Yang Buhui as saying, “Indian mythology itself is just fascinating. Its philosophy and worldview, which are very exotic, have been a wonderful new world to me.” The most viewed episodes by the volunteer group on bilibili.com, which is one of China’s largest video-sharing communities, are the first four episodes of the second season of ‘Naagin’. It has gained over 180,000 views as of May 1. Besides DKDM, Indian dramas watched in China include ‘Mahabharat’, and ‘Buddhaa – Rajaon Ka Raja’ (Buddhaa – The King of Kings). At a time when India-China relations be loosening due to political differences, its citizens seem to be bonding on the entertainment front.
