Oscars 2018: Jimmy Kimmel Starts Off The Award Show With A Monologue, Draws Mixed Reactions On Twitter
Kimmel took the hosting duties for the Academy awards for the second time in a row.
The Oscars is the highest regarded movie awards event of the year and this year too for the 90th Academy Awards, all the great directors, actors, producers and many others from around the globe attended to celebrate another remarkable year of the motion pictures. From Ellen’s Oscars selfie to best picture goof-up to iconic fashion disaster to great speeches, we witness such monumental moments at Oscars every year. And this year too, one of the highlights of the event was Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue at the start of the event. This is the first Oscars since the #MeToo movement and Time’s up movement and Kimmel smartly addressed the same.“We can’t let bad behavior slide anymore, “he declared. Jibes on Donald Trump, Harvey Weinstein, Oscar statue and envelope gate controversy were some of the attractions of his monologue. Why Did Priyanka Chopra Not Attend Oscars 2018?
Kimmel who took the hosting duties for the Academy awards for the second time in a row pointed out how this year Oscars had its first female nominee for cinematography, Rachel Morrison and how Greta Gerwig was the only female nominee in the directing category. While many praised Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue there were few who felt that the speech was not funny and up to the mark and few said that he was the “worst host ever”.
Here is the video of the Monologue:

Smart move?
Thank you Oscars for letting a man who talks about women’s rights host the Oscars! A woman would probably have made it awkward and gone off the rails…smart!

Great highlight
So stoked that @jimmykimmel talked about the pay disparity between Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams. Was honored to have been the first to talk about that.#oscars #timesup

Why no woman host?
What if instead of having Jimmy Kimmel be self-deprecating and talk about #MeToo they had just….had a woman host? #Oscars

Many felt his humor was dry
I bet Jimmy Kimmel’s humor is so dry tonight it could easily be a #VaginaMonologue @ASTROGLIDE #Oscars

But few felt it least funny
#Oscars So far the least funny monologue I have ever seen. Not knocking #JimmyKimmel He’s one of the best in the business. But this script isn’t.

Interesting thing
Interesting that Jimmy Kimmel said “women and men” instead of “men and women”. #Oscars
