A family who brought their 12-year-old child to ask for the blessings of Allah at Mumbai’s Haji Ali mosque is forced to live on the platform at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway station. According to a media report by IndiaTV, 41 hotels turned the family away because of the unavailability of Form C which would have let them stay in a hotel for the duration of the trip in Mumbai.
Ever since the Mumbai attacks of 26/11, anybody who openly confesses to be a Pakistani despite doing anything wrong is looked at suspiciously. The ire of the people of Mumbai is such that all rules related to allowing even a seemingly normal looking family from across the border are being followed to the letter. A Pakistani citizen needs to have a Form C issued by the Immigration Office of India that allows them to avail of means of temporary accommodation while they stay in India.
The family had to spend the entire day on the roads because of the crowded railway station during the day. They could move to the comparatively less busy platform so that they can have a roof of sorts over their heads but how will this family spend the night without a decent room? In desperation, they had to spend the night on the platform. The family is claiming that they are being turned away because they hold Pakistani passports.
