Bollywood actor Sitaram Panchal known for playing hard-hitting and strong characters in movies such as Peepli Live and Paan Singh Tomar passed away on Thursday morning after battling kidney and lung cancer for three years. He was only 54. Sitaram Panchal had made his debut in 1994 with Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen and was best known for movie roles in Peepli Live, Pan Singh Tomar, The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Slumdog Millionaire. Only yesterday the actor celebrated his 26th wedding anniversary with wife Uma Panchal. His son Rishabh Panchal had shared a loving photo of the three on Facebook with the caption, “Happy 26th anniversary mom and dad — with Uma Panchal and Sitaram Panchal.” The photo went viral today following the news of the actor’s death.
Sitaram Panchal was bed ridden for almost a year and had recently came out to ask for monetary help on his Facebook page for the treatment of lung and kidney cancer. In a Facebook post shared on Monday he wrote, “Brothers, please help me, I am suffering from cancer, your actor brother, Sitaram Panchal.” The Haryana Government and the organization Cine & TV Artistes Association had come forward to help the ailing actor in his hour of need and offered Rs. 5 lakh for the treatment. The photo that Sitaram Panchal’s son Rishabh shared yesterday shows the actor and his wife happily posing for the camera but the actor looks frail and terribly ill, but his family members stoically are keeping up the happy front.
The picture has gone viral and people on the social media site are paying their homage to the versatile and veteran actor.
