Why are people around the globe so obsessed with delicate and hourglass figure? This obsession is leading to body shaming people who are skinny, obese and things are getting nastier day by day. Body shaming is more towards women who are fat, skinny, overweight and much more. Recently, a plus-size blogger Callie Thorpe was body shamed online as she posted her picture in a bikini on social media – Instagram. The lady within no time was bashed with rude, cruel and nasty comments on her pictures. Thorpe along with other Hollywood celebrities supermodels including Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid was featured in an article in Vogue, titled “Why Everyone Is Wearing This Bikini Style Right Now”.
The blogger posted a picture of herself where she could be seen dressed in a black bikini and within no time, people posted a series of nasty comments on her figure. The blogger hit back hard at the haters and online trollers who spoke badly about her. She talked about the intensity of such bad comments and the effects on her life. Some people commented saying “fat cow”, while others told she was busy promoting obesity. Such comments and rude replies which can make any one break down and lose confidence in themselves. The blogger said that she never thought that she would get subjected to such harsh and nasty comments. In an interview with Yahoo Style, the blogger said, “To be featured in Vogue was such a huge deal.” The British beauty further added saying, “I know I shouldn’t really focus on Vogue validating me but I was really proud of it, and I still am proud of it.” In July she tweeted an article again, saying, “To all the people who called me fat, ugly and treated me like trash because of my weight growing up … Catch me on Vogue with your WCW.” Within no time, her page was flooded with nasty comments.

“Any person who dares to feel comfortable in their skin, or attempts to be happy in the body they are in, no matter what journey they are on with their health, isn’t allowed to exist. If they do, for example, wear fashionable clothes, or put a swimsuit on to go to the beach, they are accused of promoting obesity and unhealthy habits.”

The video she uploaded with “Dealing with online abuse” has been viewed over 26,000 times and 1,000 comments. The video is all over the social media. Thorpe became a bit emotional while expressing how she felt on reading such comments and said, “There were 900 comments and pretty much all of them were vile. It was just the worst thing I’ve ever read in the whole five years I’ve been blogging. I couldn’t get it out of my brain at all. In the night I couldn’t sleep because of some of the things I’d read about myself.” “Being fat is seen as being lazy, greedy and a waste on society,” Callie told The Independent. She further added saying, “It is one of the last acceptable prejudices in this day and age,” she said.
“It is absolutely insane to me that if we just call someone a troll and that makes it okay. But some of the stuff these people write is … just violent, nasty shit that no one should ever see.” Thorpe even told her fans, followers and well-wishers to take a stand against online bullying by reporting nasty comments. She even said that “Please use your voice, please use your report button, please email people in charge and tell them that it’s not acceptable to have comments in a section like that.”
It’s high time, haters and trollers stop body-shaming women. Posting mean comments on their photos and making them feel even worse is not a good sign. At least respect their privacy and let them enjoy their lives the way they want to. Do not ever forget that it is their body, their weight. Let them flaunt their body and if you have a problem with it better ignore. What do you guys think about this? Stay tuned for more updates on India.com Buzz.
