Ramadan 2016: Denmark Muslims observe longest fast of 21 hours, 6 hours more than Indian Muslims

Ramadan is the ninth month of Lunar calendar observed by Muslims as a holy month and from this year the fasting has already started from June 7 and will end on July 6 in India.

When the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan started this week, some Muslims around the world will face bigger challenges than others. The Quran which was revealed on Prophet Muhammad some 1,400 years ago made it clear that the fast observed by Muslims should start before dawn and must end after dusk but says nothing about how many hours it might be. In Denmark this year Muslims are observing longest fast of 21 hours, which is 6 hours more that India Muslims who are fasting for almost 15 hours a day.

According to the latest sunset maps recording in the worldwide fasting hours, Muslims living in Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands and Belgium will be fasting for longest hours than compared to rest of the world. Take a look at some of the fasting hours in some countries:

1. Denmark:  Muslims living in Denmark are observing the longest fast in the world, which is 21 hours long.

2. Iceland, Sweden and Norway: These are the two countries which observe the longest fasting hours, for 20 hours a day.

3. Belgium and Netherlands: The fasting in Belgium and Netherlands last for 18 hours a day, followed by 17 hours in Spain, Germany observes fasting for 16 hours and 30 minutes, India is observing 15 hours. While this year England is observing one of the longest fast in past 33 years varying from 16-19 hours based on the location. US, France and Italy wil observe fasting of 16 hours this year.

4. Asia: India is observing fasting hours from 14-16 hours a day. While Pakistani Muslims observes 15-16 hours in their country and Bangladesh observe fast for 15 hours.

5: Argentina, Australia and South Africa: These countries observe the shortest fasts of the year 2016. In Argentina, Muslims are observing fast as long as 9 hours and 30 minutes while there are 10 hours of fasting for Muslims living in Australia and South Africa.
