Spiti: In a rare sight that has amazed wildlife enthusiasts, a snow leopard was spotted in Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti district, the video of which has gone viral. As per a report in The Times Of India, a family in the remote village of Hikkim spotted the cat when they were travelling in a car, and immediately began filming the elusive creature.

Indian Forest Service officer Susanta Nanda shared the video and captioned it as, ”Majestic grandeur in the tranquility of Spiti District. Snow leopard is the most beautiful & mystical big cats with grey/green eyes,unlike the yellow eyes of other big cats.Tails as long as de body& 5inch fur at bottom to survive cold weathe,rare to see these ghost of de mountain (sic).”

Known as the ghosts of the mountain, the highly elusive snow leopard is very hard to spot. Threatened by poaching, the snow leopards’ global population is estimated at less than 10,000.
