Raj Kapoor, the ultimate showman of Bollywood died today 29 years ago. He died on June 2, 1988. Raj Kapoor died of complications related to asthma on June 2, 1988 at the age of 63. Now his son actor Rishi Kapoor has paid homage to him by remembering Raj Kapoor with a line from his memorable sing Jeena Yahan Marna Yahaan from his dream project Mera Naam Joker. Rishi Kapoor who is very active on Twitter, took to the micro-blogging site shared a picture of Raj Kapoor and wrote, “Papa, today 29 years ago, you left us. ‘Par hum tumhare rahenge sada’.” Raj Kapoor had five children, Randhir Kapoor, Ritu Nanda, Rima Kapoor Jain, Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor. Rishi Kapoor first worked with his father Raj Kapoor in Shree 420 where he appeared in the evergreen song Pyar Hua Iqrar Hua which featured Raj Kapoor and Nargis. He played a young Raj Kapoor at the age of 18 in the movie Mera Naam Joker (1970) that fetched him a National Award. The film was Raj Kapoor’s most ambitious project but sank at the box office without any trace. However, the film gained cult status later on. Raj Kapoor launched Rishi Kapoor’s acting career in the young love story Bobby which also starred Dimple Kapadia and Premnath. Bobby helped Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia attain cult status as the movie was a superhit.
