Former cricketer and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday appealed to people to take care of their eyes. He stressed upon the fact that one should care for their eyes and protect them from the harmful effects of diabetes. Sachin Tendulkar reportedly said, “Not many people are aware about blindness caused by diabetes — it’s a new term ‘Eyebetes’. I urge you all to take time out and get your sugar (levels) and eyes checked when you go for Ganpati Bappa’s darshan.” He had appealed prior to the start of Ganpati festival in Mumbai which has started today on Friday, August, 25, 2017. His appeal came as a support to ophthalmologist Nishant Kumar, who with his team will be conducting a special ‘Eyebetes’ camp in the premises of the popular and famous Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi from August 25, 2017, to September 3, 2017, as a part of the Ganeshotsav celebrations.

Diabetes is a major cause of blindness in people and due to this disease, people face glaucoma. People often neglect their symptoms thinking it is a given of old age or advancing age but often the process can be cured if detected early. Dr. Nishant Kumar said, “The free ‘Eyebetes’ camp will offer the devotees an opportunity to get their sugar levels checked and their eyes scanned. This campaign has already garnered a positive response from the masses and renowned celebrities.” Dr. Nishant Kumar is attached to P.D. Hinduja Hospital and heads the ‘Eyebetes Foundation’. China as of now has the highest number of diabetics in the world but it is predicted that India will soon overtake China in a few decades. In a few decades, India will have more than 100 million diabetics and every fifth person in the country will be suffering from this problematic disease. Diabetes leads to a lot many ailments as well that is why it is so detrimental to well-being and healthy life. Sachin Tendulkar who is revered as a god of Indian cricket in the nation appealed to people to not take their health for granted. He said, “Do not take your health for granted. Your eyes are very precious, so go and get this free check up done.” Sachin Tendulkar was all praise for Dr. Nishant and his team of doctors and said that the team of doctors would assist people with healthy tips which would ensure to keep a check on diabetes and ensure faster and better cure.
