JEC Tower: Saudi Arabia is building the world’s tallest skyscraper in Jeddah city which will dwarf even the iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai in sheer size and arguably magnificence. According to details, the Jeddah Economic Company (JEC) Tower, formerly known as the Kingdom Tower, which is being developed under Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s ambitious Saudi Vision 2030 project, will be the tallest building on the planet upon its completion.
As per Saudi media reports, the JEC tower will be a staggering 3,280 feet tall, making it 564 feet taller than Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, currently considered the tallest building in the world with a height of 2,716 feet. The gargantuan project is being spearheaded by Saudi Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud as part of the larger Saudi Vision 2030 project, and estimated to be completed sometime in 2028.
Interestingly, the JEC Tower is being designed by famous architects Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, with Smith being no stranger to towering feats as he has also designed Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The duo are hoping to surpass their previous work by building the JEC Tower, which would likely become a testament of their skill for decades to come.
The design of JEC Tower by Smith and Gill aims to build structure that makes a bold statement but seamlessly harmonizes with its surroundings, and does not stand out like a proverbial sore thumb in the desert city. The architects have given the tower a sleek, aerodynamic form, which is designed to withstand harsh desert winds, while its advanced materials and construction techniques are poised to push the limits of gravity.
According to various estimates, the JEC Tower will cost an estimated $1.2 billion to construct, while its surround Kingdom City project is expected to cost a whopping $20 billion. The skyscraper will have 157 with 59 elevators, and will house a luxury hotel, high-end residences, and expansive office spaces.
The JEC Tower will also feature the world’s highest observation point, which will offer breathtaking panoramic views of the mesmerizing Jeddah cityscape from a height of over 3000 feet.
The tower is scheduled for completion in 2028.
