From cricketers to actors, 2015 saw several couples tying the knot in star-studded wedding affair. Be it closely guarded secret wedding of actor Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput or lavish series of ceremonies of Sanjay Hinduja, the London-based scion of Britain’s wealthiest family, this year saw it all. The Indian cricket team had its fair share of wedding celebrations with eligible bachelors Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh and Dinesh Karthik marrying their respective partners. The marriage celebrations varied from private to grand ceremonies with A-list guests, 2015 has been filled with many, many high-profile weddings.
1. Rohit Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh
The Mumbai cricketer married his long time friend Ritika Sajdeh on December 13 in a grand celebration which saw big names from cricket and entertainment world in attendance. Rohit and his Mumbai Indians teammate Harbhajan Singh were given party by their IPL team owner and business tycoon Mukesh and Nita Ambani, a day before Rohit and Ritika’s wedding. Rohit and Ritika have known each other for six years and got engaged earlier in June 2 this year.
2. Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput
Their love-arranged marriage definitely qualified to be one of the most discussed weddings of this year. Indian heartthrob Shahid Kapoor broke thousands of hearts when he disclosed his relationship with 21-year-old DU girl Meera Rajput. The two were formally engaged on January 14, 2015 while they tied the knot on July 7 followed by star-studded reception in Mumbai on July 12.
3. Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra
The love story of ace Indian cricketer and Bollywood starlet was out in the open and after a courtship of eight years Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra got married on October 29. The lovebirds tied the nuptial in a truly big fat Punjabi wedding style which included pre-wedding celebrations like mehandi and sangeet followed by an intimate ceremony in a gurudwara. They also held a splendid wedding reception that saw Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi blessing the newlyweds.
4. Karan Patel and Ankita Bhargava
Indian television’s most eligible bachelor Karan Patel aka Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’s Raman Bhalla shocked his fans when he decided to get married to little known TV actress Ankita Bhargava. The arranged love marriage took place on May 3 followed by a star-studded reception attended by TV personalities Divyanka Tripathi, Anita Hassanandani, Krystle D’souza, Mushtaq Sheikh and Mihika Varma among many. 5. Suresh Raina and Priyanka Chaudhary
Indian batting star Suresh Raina married his beautiful childhood friend Priyanka Chaudhary on April 3 at the five-star Hotel Leela Palace in New Delhi. His wedding was attended by who’s who politics, cricket and Bollywood. Political honchos like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav and Congress MP Jothiraditya Scindia to Indian T20 and ODI captain MS Dhoni to actor Arjun Rampal, everyone graced the event.
6. Dinesh Karthik and Dipika Pallikal
Tamil Nadu cricketer Dinesh Karthik got hitched to squash champion Dipika Pallikal in two style wedding ceremonies– Christian church ceremony on August 18 and Hindu Telugu-Naidu style wedding on August 20 in the space of three days in Chennai. India’s top female squash player had been engaged to Royal Challengers Bangalore cricketer since November 15, 2013.
7. Kunal Kapoor and Naina Bachchan
In a private ceremony on the Seychelles islands, actor Kunal Kapoor married investment banker Naina Bachchan, daughter of Ajitabh Bachchan (Amitabh Bachchan’s younger brother) on February 9, 2015. A wedding reception was held on April 11 that was attended by a host of Bollywood stars including Hrithik Roshan, Anupam and Kirron Kher and politicians.
8. Kunal Khemu and Soha Ali Khan
According to the IANS report, actress Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Khemu exchanged vows on January 25, 2015. The wedding took place at their Khar residence in the presence of a registrar and family members like brother Saif Ali Khan, sister-in-law Kareena Kapoor and mother Sharmila Tagore.
9. Neeraj Khemka and Drashti Dhami
Indian television Madhubala aka Drashti Dhami tied the knot with her NRI business tycoon boyfriend Neeraj Khemka in Mumbai on February 21. The pre-wedding functions like sangeet and mehandi began on February 19 with close friends and family in attendance.
10. Ryan Tham and Minissha Lamba
Actress Minissha Lamba tied the knot to long-time boyfriend Ryan Tham on July 6. The duo had a registered court marriage after which the two celebrated with family and close friends. Ryan Tham is owner of Juhu nightclub, Trilogy. Actress Pooja Bedi who is cousin of Ryan welcomed the bride in family and also posted a group picture with the newlywed couple at the wedding lunch.
11. Madhu Mantena and Masaba Gupta
Leading fashion designer Masaba Gupta and film producer Madhu Mantena had a quite court marriage on June 2. Later in the month of November, the duo had extravagant wedding celebrations with full rituals and wedding functions. The event was one memorable affair with stars like Shahid Kapoor and wife Mira, Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Neha Dhupia, Aditi Rao Hydri, Zaheer Khan and Pernia Qureshi in attendance.
12. Abhishek Kapoor and Pragya Yadav
Abhishek Kapoor is married to Swedish actress and model Pragya Yadav on May 4. Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal, Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar, cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and string of other Bollywood celebrities were in attendance at the wedding reception. The 25-year-old Hawaa Hawaai actress started dating 44-year-old Kapoor since he began work on 2013 hit film Kai Po Che! The couple then got engaged in 2013.
13. Rahul Thackeray and Aditi Redkar
Smita Thackeray’s elder son Rahul Thackeray married Aditi Redkar on February 9. It was attended by Bollywood actors, family members and many politicians. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray were seen blessing with the newlywed couple. Singer Sonu Nigam also attended the ceremony with his wife and son.
14. Mankeet Singh and Harshdeep Kaur
Bollywood playback singer Harshdeep Kaur got hitched to her best friend Mankeet Singh on March 20. The 28-year-old singer is best known for singing “Katiya Karoon” from Imitiaz Ali’s Rockstar starring Ranbir Kapoor got married in a private ceremony at Gurudwara. She shared the news with her fans on social media and also posted picture while taking pheras.
15. Hitesh Ralhan and Tulsi Kumar
Bollywood singer Tulsi Kumar tied the knot with her fiancé Hitesh Ralhan on February 2. They had a star-studded wedding reception on March 2 in Mumbai which saw who’s who of Bollywood. Filmmaker Karan Johar, producer Siddharth Roy Kapur with actress wife Vidya Balan, stars Sunny Leone, Sonakshi Sinha, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arjun Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Sunil Shetty with wife Mana, choreographer-director Farah Khan and husband Shirish Kunder were all present.
16. Sanjay Hinduja and Anu Mahtani
One can just imagine the grandeur of the wedding of the London-based scion of Britain’s wealthiest family, Sanjay Hinduja. Touted as ‘India’s most eligible bachelor’, 48-year-old billionaire got hitched to his long-time girlfriend and designer Anu Mahtani in Udaipur, India on February 12. The wedding saw Nicole Scherzinger, from the band Pussycat Dolls and Jennifer Lopez perform during the functions.
17. Shreya Ghoshal and Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya
Playback singing sensation Shreya Ghoshal got married to long time boyfriend Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya on February 5. Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya, who goes by Shiladitya M, is a young entrepreneur. The couple followed Bengali wedding rituals and got married in presence of their families and few close friends.
18. Sonali Jaitley and Jaish Bakshi
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s daughter Sonali married businessman-lawyer Jaish Bakshi in December. According to the PTI report, President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan were among a large number of people who attended a reception. Union ministers, industrialists, film stars, top bureaucrats and leaders from a number of political parties attended the reception.
