Television actor Shaleen Bhanot is all set to play the character of Sikh leader Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s father Mahaa Singh on Life OK’s show Sher-e-Punjab: Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Punjab-based 14-year-old actor Damanpreet Singh plays the titular role, while actress Sneha Wagh makes her comeback on the television in the role Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s mother Raj Kaur. The epic Indian historic drama is based on true-life story of the legendary warrior king and the founder of Sikh empire. Shaleen Bhanot and Sneha Wag starrer Maharaja Ranjit Singh show premiers on March 20, 2017. Shaleen was earlier seen in the role of Duryordhan in Sony TV’s Suryaputra Karn. Speaking about his role in Life OK’s show, Sher-e-Punjab: Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Shaleen said, “At first, it was a cultural shock for me to play Maha Singh in this show. “Now I am trying to be full Punjabi and don’t even cut my beard. I am even learning Punjabi for this role. I belong to Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and speak only Hindi. Sher-E-Punjab: Maharaja Ranjit Singh will bring to light the inspirational journey of Sikh leader Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The show boasts of a grand set, especially designed by award-winning Bollywood director Omung Kumar. The costumes for that era are finely designed by Manoshi Nath and Rushi Sharma, while the stunts will be executed under the guidance of popular Hindi cinema stunt director Allan Amin.
Damanpreet will play the main character in the show. The excited young actor said, “I have read about Maharaja Ranjit Singh ji in school. I am in ninth class right now. It’s an honour for me to portray him on national television. My grandparents and my parents are on cloud nine these days.”

He said, “We have followed Kushwant Singh’s books. We have also followed instructions of Dr. J.S. Grewal and Gurbaksh Singh, who are prominent historians.”
