The 24-hour photo and video montages that ultimately disappear was once the USP of Snapchat. But in the past year, social media giant Facebook has incorporated this feature into all its offerings – Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. To counter this, Snapchat has been working on rolling out several upgrades. A recent upgrade included a feature called ‘Stories Everywhere’, through which users of the app could share content from within the app to other digital platforms. And now, Snapchat has launched ‘Bitmoji Deluxe’ – a new app where users can create lifelike cartoon doppelgängers. The app now has hundreds of new physical features to make it more inclusive and life-like. These include a range of hairstyles, skin tones and accessories, that can be used to create animated characters, reports the Daily Mail. The new styles will be rolled out to all iOS and Android users worldwide today. The upgrade includes 40 skin tones, 50 hair colours and 50 hair treatment options. Specifications like curly or straight hair can also be chosen, and these options can be combined in an infinite number of ways to create the perfect replica of you, digitally. In the Bitmoji Deluxe app, users take a selfie that will appear at the bottom of the screen and can be used for reference throughout the Bitmoji creation-process, states Daily Mail. Bitmoji Deluxe is an update of the original Bitmoji app, and has introduced new ways for users to reflect their physical attributes, styling preferences and personalities. It is almost like a personal emoji. Though there is no automatic face recognition, the new update makes Bitmoji more flexible on the backend so Snapchat can add new variation options more frequently. All features – such as makeup and high heels – can be applied to both male and female characters. The company said that the update is an effort to make the app more inclusive and accurate. There is also a new navigation bar at the bottom which gives access to physical attributes and accessories that can be viewed throughout. While existing users can update to Bitmoji Deluxe, they can also return to the earlier version of the app if they so wish. This can be done by heading to settings and ‘select your preferred style’ to find the previously created Bitmoji. Interestingly, Bitmoji was acquired by Snapchat in 2016 for $64 million, but it still lives independently of Snapchat. Bitmojis can be shared not just on Snapchat, but also can be added to the keyboard, sent in iMessage, or posted on Twitter. What’s more, Bitmoji can also be added to Chrome and sent in an email if you feel like doing so. What are your views on this new upgrade of Bitmoji? Let us know in the comments section below.
