Sonu Nigam shaves head after fatwa! Subramanian Swamy, Vivek Agnihotri, Richa Chadha hail singer on Twitter

Sonu Nigam found support in Vivek Agnihotri, acclaimed filmmaker and writer and senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. Richa Chadha and author Tarek Fatah also supported Sonu Nigam’s stand on the issue.

Sonu Nigam, who had kicked the hornet ’s nest with his remark on ‘azaan’ and had called forced religiousness ‘gundagardi’, shaved his head this afternoon in the presence of media. A Muslim cleric, Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi had issued a fatwa against him and had promised Rs 10 lakh for anyone who would shave Sonu Nigam’s head was in for a rude awakening when the singer took it upon himself and did the deed and demanded the promised money. The Muslim cleric is the Vice President of West Bengal Minority United Council. Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderihad announced an award of Rs 10 lakh for anyone who would shave Sonu Nigam’s head, put a garland of torn shoes around his neck and tour him around the country. Sonu Nigam organized a press conference to clarify his stand and even tweeted about accepting the challenge. He tweeted, “Today at 2pm Aalim will come to my place, and shave my head. Keep your 10 lakhs ready Maulavi (sic).”

In the press conference Sonu Nigam stated, “I did not target any specific religion’. I spoke against the use of loudspeakers and everyone has a right to his opinion”. He even came to press conference with celebrity hairstylist Hakim Aalim who shaved his head at the media conference. Sonu Nigam met with a lot of hate on social media and Sonu Sood his namesake also got a few brickbats for no fault of his own, since many people mistook him and trolled him. Sonu Sood was left wondering what hit him. Indians mistake Sonu Sood for Sonu Nigam right after Snapdeal and Snapchat fiasco!
