Sonu Nigam, Vivek Agnihotri tweet against religious ‘Gundagardi’ and ‘illegal’ blaring of Azaan, cook up a storm on Twitter

Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam this morning, in a series of tweets, spoke about how the early morning Azaan is a disturbance to his sleep. He was supported by director Vivek Agnihotri.

It seems Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam is upset about having to wake up early and is blaming religion for being his alarm clock. The singer this morning, in a series of tweets, spoke about how the early morning Azaan is a disturbance to his sleep. At 5.25 am today, Sonu Nigam ranted, “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India”. He added, “And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?” Further fuelling religious tension, Sonu Nigam said, “I don’t believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don’t follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True?” He concluded by saying that people of a certain religion are being bullies. “Gundagardi hai bus…,” said Sonu Nigam in his last tweet this morning.

Bollywood director Vivek Agnihotri who has made movies such as Buddha in a Traffic Jam and Chocolate jumped in and supported Sonu Nigam in his plea against the playing of Azaan early morning on a loudspeaker. Vivek Agnihotri is a known supporter of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that is backed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Hindutva brigade . So, it may not be surprising that he, like actor Anupam Kher, has responded to tweets of this nature by Sonu Nigam – a singer who is loved by people of all religions. Vivek Agnihotri tweeted about the Azaan, “I am willing to sponsor a campaign against illegal blaring of Azaan and other prayers on loudspeakers. Suggest a creative hashtag.” As if this weren’t sick enough, he tweeted a link to Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, saying, “Dear @DevFadnavis pl note and help us force police to act against illegal blaring of Azaan and other such activities.” In a fresh tweet this morning, Vivek Agnihotri said, “All those who are defending Azaan and other blaring pls note that being ‘politically correct’ and being ‘correct’ are two different things.” Here is one of his tweets.

Recently, Sonu Nigam was much appreciated for his song with batting legend Sachin Tendulkar.

But we guess he is now getting used to being a bully on Twitter. He took the case of singer Mika Singh, who posted a ‘respectful’ message for Sonu Nigam and singer Shaan – acknowledging them as his seniors. Mika Singh said, “Jab Mai Gata hu tau aap dono suno .. tum bade bhai ho age Mei.everybody loves their voice and they just love my voice awe  I’m so lucky”. Sonu Nigam replied in his own style on Twitter, saying, “Bade bhai hain to ‘Tum’ ka istemal galat hai.. ‘aap’ par hi raho Chhote”! Their professional rivalry is evident from such small talk on Twitter. We think Sonu Nigam should stop now, or else he will soon become a Grumpy Cat!
