The river flows through Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha gurgling past plains in the form of a waterfall called Hundru Falls nd eventually falls and merges with the Bay of Bengal. Not only the Subarnarekha river but also its tributary Kharkari river also yields gold particles in its sand.

Wondering how do we extract the gold? According to a report by Times of India, the extraction process takes place all year round barring the monsoon season. The locals, tribals in the surrounding area are offered the employment and help filter the sand and extract the gold from the river bed. The size of the gold particles is the same as a rice grain and at times smaller than that and one can see sifting sand with sieves at the bottom of the river.
