Canadian YouTube sensation Lily Singh, better known by her onscreen name ‘Superwoman’, strongly believes in giving it back. Before you get us wrong, we are talking about giving it back to the society! Lily Singh started her YouTube channel in 2010, and since then posts a new video every Monday and Thursday. Recently, to celebrate her 1000th vlog (video blog), she announced a special gift for her fans. From paying for a students’ GRE entrance exam to buying books for another, and from paying the rent to extending financial help to buy groceries worth $100 to a family in need, Superwoman went all out to reach out to her fans and express her gratitude in any way possible.
Lily Singh aka Superwoman asked her fans to share some specific challenges that they are facing in their life at the moment. Soon, her timeline was flooded with tweets from her fans across age groups. And Superwoman meticulously responded to all, offering help in any way possible. In one case, she even offered to take the ailing mom of a fan out for a date. It was heartening to read the exchange between them, and much like her videos, Superwoman received many ‘likes’ for her generous gesture too.
Interestingly, Superwoman joins a list of other celebrities who offered help to their fans in need. In May this year, singer Nicki Minaj offered support to more than 30 students in the form of tuition or help in paying off college loans. Before that, Beyoncé announced that she will fund four scholarships for “young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident,” according to a CNN report. Similarly, Chance the Rapper had donated $1 million to the public schools in Chicago in March.
Check out some of the tweets that Superwoman exchanged with her fans:
Mom telling me that she’s going to die very soon EVERYDAY. I don’t blame her even the doctor said that to me…so it’s hard for me to accept the fact that I’m going to live alone with no parents at this age. I’m not ready to lose anyone in my life
