A citizen who seems to have been tired by constant bribe demands by government officials did something very clever. Nagaraj from Tamil Nadu parked his bike outside The Regional Transport Officials of Tirupur North with a signboard that has now embarrassed the department. On the board was written in Tamil, “This bike was not registered because I refused to pay a bribe to the RTO. So, I am leaving this with the RTO.”
According to The News Minute, Nagaraj a resident of Angeripalayam had bought the scooter on June 30 from its showroom. He made a down payment of Rs 21,500 for the bike and had to pay monthly installments for the next two years to complete the amount. However, he was asked an additional amount of Rs 1792 by the showroom employees to get the vehicle registered, to which Nagraj refused. The small-time businessman hence had to keep his new scooter unused for up to 20 days. After a period of time, Nagrap felt really fed up of the whole scenario and decided to act on it.
Talking about the incident, he was quoted saying, “This bike was not registered because I refused to pay a bribe to the RTO. So, I am leaving this with the RTO.” He allegedly added saying, “They told me that the money was to bribe the RTO for registration. I refused to give it and my vehicle was not registered.” He further said, “I got really fed up and decided to give it to the RTO and figure out a solution. So, I hung this board on the vehicle and took it there.”
Nagaraj also alleged that RTO officials refused to take the bike. He said, “RTO Sivagurunathan admitted that the showroom was wrong to not register the bike and said it will be done in a week. Why couldn’t he have done it immediately?” The RTO has now decided to send notice to Nagaraj and the showroom to appear regarding the matter. He also told the news website that he tried to file a police complaint but was not allowed.
