While popular singer Sonu Nigam has been receiving flak from either side for talking against the blaring of loudspeakers at religious places many have chosen to support him. After filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, actor Richa Chadha, author Taslima Nasreen has extended her support. Taslima Nasreen took to Twitter to express his displeasure against noise pollution caused by various things including loudspeakers. Taslima tweeted saying, “Azan is a wonderful music. But not everybody wants to listen to wonderful music when they’re in sleep, in a meeting, discussing, studying, working. All noise pollution including religious should be stopped. Taslim also narrated a similar incident that happened to her when a Kolkata Imam issued a fatwa against her and said that whoever blackens her face will get Rs 50,000. Imams r liars” Veteran actor Renuka Shahane also spoke about blaring loudspeakers and how as Indians music has been embedded into our brains. While she supported Sonu Nigam for his opinion she said that tone of his statement could have been better. The row began after Sonu Nigam tweeted saying how the sound of azaan woke him up from sleep. He had said that it was “forced religiousness” and use of loudspeakers at religious places should stop. Reacting to Sonu’s statement, a Kolkata Imam Syed Shah Atif Al-Qaderi said that he would give Rs 10 lakh to anyone who shaves Sonu Nigam’s head and garlands with him footwear.
