Other countries where salt is relatively expensive include Ghana (USD 2.64/kg), Switzerland (USD 2.04/kg), and Belgium (USD 2.00/kg). However, in nations like Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Egypt, salt is available at prices similar to those in India.
India benefits from its extensive coastline, which facilitates large-scale production of sea salt, keeping costs low. Countries like China also produce sea salt on a massive scale. In Australia, salt mining makes production economical. Additionally, government subsidies in some countries help lower the cost of salt for consumers.
