U.S. President Donald Trump stirred fresh controversy after showering unusually personal praise on his White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, during a rally where he was meant to highlight his administration’s economic achievements. Speaking at an event in Pennsylvania, the 79-year-old president drifted away from economic talking points and instead began complimenting the 28-year-old press secretary, calling her “fantastic” and prompting the crowd to applaud her. “We brought our superstar with us today- Karoline. Isn’t she something?” he said, drawing cheers from supporters.

Trump then pivoted to commenting on Leavitt’s looks and on-air confidence, despite their significant age gap of more than five decades. “When she’s on TV — especially Fox — they’re unbeatable,” he said. “When she gets up there with that beautiful face and those lips that don’t stop-op-op-op, like a little machine gun.”

He continued by praising her assertiveness, saying she had “nothing to fear,” before segueing into a familiar list of political issues. “We’ve got the right policies. We’re not pushing men into women’s sports, we’re not forcing transgender ideology on everyone, and we’re not opening the borders to the whole world,” he said. “So she’s got it a lot easier. I sure wouldn’t want to be the press secretary for the other side.”

Trump has made similar remarks before

This isn’t the first time Trump has publicly fixated on Karoline Leavitt’s appearance. During an interview with Newsmax in August, the Republican leader offered comparable comments, praising not just her work but her looks.

“It’s the face, it’s the mind, it’s the lips — the way they move, like a machine gun,” he said at the time, echoing the language he used again at the Pennsylvania rally.

He went on to declare, “I don’t think any president has ever had a better press secretary than Karoline.”

Leavitt previously served in Trump’s first administration from 2019 to 2021 as an assistant press secretary. A New Hampshire native, she is married to 60-year-old real estate developer Nicholas Riccio, with whom she has a son, Niko. After an unsuccessful run for Congress, she returned to the White House in January, becoming both the youngest press secretary in U.S. history and the fifth person to hold the role under Trump — and the first of his second term.
