Chinese video creating app, TikTok, is officially removed from Google Play and iOS’ app store for having inappropriate and pornographic content. All this happened when the Madras High Court issued a directive to the Government of India to ban downloads of the app in India. Responding to the orders, India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) asked Apple and Google to disable the downloads of the TikTok app from the App Store and the Play Store respectively. TikTok is said to have over 120 million users in India. There are many of the influencers who started their career in making videos. Some of the users are happy about the ban and some are unhappy. TikTok has provided a statement regarding the ban by Madras High Court: “We welcome the decision of the Madras High Court to appoint Arvind Datar as amicus curiae (independent counsel) to the court. We have faith in the Indian judicial system and we are optimistic about an outcome that would be well received by over 120 million monthly active users in India, who continue using TikTok to showcase their creativity and capture moments that matter in their everyday lives.”
