Tim Cook landed in India last night and went straight to his nearly Rs 90,000 suite at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Colaba. However, his morning dawned early when he visited the Siddhivinayak temple at dawn. He was not alone in visiting the temple – Apple India head Sanjay Kaul accompanied him along with other Apple employees. Tim Cook has a completely busy itinerary in India where he plans to visit 4 cities – Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi in just 4 days. He also plans to meet Narendra Modi in Delhi where the two will discuss the Make in India campaign and further plans to boost Apple sales in the country. Plans to meet other state dignitaries are also in the offing though nothing about his itinerary is public yet.

While Apple has been coming up with newer plans and schemes in India, in the recent past, their devices have failed to garner the expected response and generate excitement.  The iPhone is still apple’ most beloved device in the country though the high pricing of the device and it’s premium segment tag have taken the lustre off a bit. While the cheaper iphone variants were expected to created a buzz and finally make it affordable enough for the aam junta, the errant pricing ensured that the phone continued to be for the premium few and the rest of the country still has to make do with outdated models. We wonder if Cook’s Indian visit will bring about any change in their future line-ups or their present offerings – however, a new Apple manufacturing facility as part of the Make in India campaign won’t leave us too stunned!
