Cloacinawas the goddess who presided over the Cloaca Maxima, meaning the ‘Great Drain’ which was the main trunk of the system of sewers in Rome. Crepitus was the Romans’ god of excrement, and was believed to have the power to punish a sinner through constipation, or make him suffer him through diarrhea. In fact, he was also the god of flatulence!
