Comedian Trevor Noah took to Twitter to defend his ‘joke’ that he made about the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. In his latest tweet, the host of ‘The Daily Show’ said that he is amazed to see how his comment on the conflict trended more than the actual conflict itself on social media. Now, while his earlier statement was deemed downright racist and insensitive on Twitter, the internet is now abuzz with how his new statement is even more offensive. Indians again gave it back to Noah by telling him that a) his tweet was actually factually incorrect as Twitter was filled with hashtags related to India-Pak tensions, and b) he has done himself no good by maintaining his racist stand on the so-called joke he made. Noah tweeted, “It’s amazing to me that my joke about the conflict in India and Pakistan trended more than the story of the actual conflict itself. Sometimes it seems like people are more offended by the jokes comedians make about an issue than the issue itself.” (sic) Also Read - PM Modi Dedicates Made-in-India Arjun Battle Tank to Army in Chennai, Launches Infra Projects Worth Several Crores

This is how people schooled him:

The comedian is known for taking a jibe at the popular issues. However, this time, he talked about how he can imagine Indian soldiers saying ‘time for you to die’ while in the battle, in a Bollywood song reference, and also impersonated the Indian accent. His act received a wide criticism on social media. Even Hindi film actress Swara Bhasker took to Twitter and slammed the comedian saying, “Trevor, as an admirer of ur work pls let me say.. the problem was not the topic of ur joke but what u chose to say. It was lazy & patronising & reeking Of first world arrogance & colonial stereotypes.. Disappointing in a person as aware as u @Trevornoah @ComedyCentral” (sic)

She also reposted Noah’s latest tweet and highlighted what was the real problem with it. She wrote, “Again @Trevornoah pls drop this America centric condescension. the topic of the conflict was the ONLY thing trending in India & Pak this past week & numerous liberal Indians & Pakistanis petitioned their govt.s to de-escalate the conflict & sued 4 peace. This is not about YOU!” (sic)

Before this, the comedian apologised for the show and said that ‘hurting people was not his intention’. Here:

Well, is the world now asking Indians to laugh at visible insensitivity and out-of-context ‘jokes’ as well?
