Zahid Ahmed, a trucker in Kashmir was burnt alive in a petrol bomb attack by extremists in Udhampur on October 9. Zahid was the conductor of the truck while the driver, Showkat Ahmed, also suffered burn injuries. The cleaner of the truck, Riyaz, managed to escape. Zahid was declared dead on Sunday, October 18, at the Safdurganj hospital in New Delhi. He belonged to Anantnag district of Kashmir. A curfew was imposed in Kashmir on Sunday after locals staged protests in the Valley. Some separatist leaders have been put under house arrest. Police station areas of Anantnag, Bijbehara, and Gunj, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Maisuma, Rainawari and Khanyar in Srinagar are affected because of the curfew. Reports say the truck was allegedly attacked by a petrol bomb by some regional right-wing extremists after carcasses of three cows were found in Jammu.
