Turkish Airlines Flight Diverted Due to Misleading ‘Bomb On Board’ Wi-Fi Hotspot
A misleading wi-fi hotspot name resulted in the diversion of a Turkish Airlines flight. The entire incident was highly similar to a F.R.I.E.N.D.S episode.
In the recent times especially after the 9/11 blasts and 26/11 terrorist attack the world has become very alert, cautious and fearful of anything that might pose a threat to the well-being of the society and the people. There has been added security at airports, railway stations, and public places. Even social media platforms like Facebook and numerous apps have been developed to help people reach their loved ones as well as the Police during an emergency. In this scenario, a Turkish Airlines flight from Nairobi to Istanbul was diverted after a misleading wi-fi hotspot network was detected called “bomb on board”. The misleading network alarmed the passengers and the flight had to be diverted said the airline on Thursday.
In a statement that was released by the Turkish Airlines, the flight made an emergency landing at the Khartoum airport in Sudan. However, the flight was soon on its way once the security inspections on all the passengers and the aircraft were done and cleared. Reportedly, the Turkish Airlines said, “Experts said the wi-fi network in question was created on board. No irregularities were seen after security procedures were carried out, and passengers were brought back on the plane once boarding restarted.” Video Of A 6-Year-Old Flying An Etihad Airways Plane Is Viral: This Kid Knows All The Controls Of An Aeroplane
A personal wi-fi network can be created by individuals on mobile phones and this was a case of such an instance where a passenger chose a very misleading as well as scary password. The airline said that all 100 passengers were brought back on the flight but it failed to mention whether the authorities identified the individual behind the scare. This case is similar to an episode from F.R.I.E.N.D.S where Phoebe tells a fake story to Rachel Green that there is something wrong with the left phalange of the aircraft in a bid to stop her from leaving for Paris. In the episode, the flight got delayed because the passengers got scared about the aircraft not having “a phalange”.
