Twitter has been an exciting social media platform, where things are promoted, revelations made and a lot of fun banter also takes place, as also some serious maligning. Twitter has been open about its user policy and has come to the rescue of cyber trolling. However, the microblogging website has entered the bad books of many Indians because of their recent action. Twitter has removed a user, Sonam Mahajan, over the user agreement. This step was taken when Mahajan, who uses the handle @AsYouNotWish, tweeted pictures of the anti-India post shared by Dangal actress Zaira Wasim’s mother Zarqa Wasim. Twitterati has been angered by this step and is asking the micro-blogging website to bring back the user. But what is even more shocking is that Sonam Mahajan’s second Twitter handle, @iSonamMahajan, has also been blocked by Twitter! Nationalist vs Raheel Khursheed: Twitter India Head trolled for being Kashmiri after singers Sonu Nigam & Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s exit.
Angry Twitterati has been using the hashtag #BringBackSonamMahajan and making their point. There have also been some extreme reactions on the website. People are questioning this decision of Twitter and blaming Raheel Khursheed, Twitter’s Head of News for South Asia and South East Asia. Raheel Khursheed is being targeted as he is also a Kashmiri Indian and people have been blaming him for allegedly taking sides with the young actress and her family who belong to Jammu and Kashmir. Giving fire to these sentiments is the fact that Raheel had also earlier shared some anti-Narendra Modi and pro-Muslim tweets earlier on Twitter. Take a look what Twitterati is saying about Raheel Khursheed and the ban on Sonam Mahajan!
“Shit hitting roof. @iSonamMahajan, account that Sonam Mahajan created after getting suspended has also been suspended #BringBackSonamMahajan.”

I did not find any tweet of #SonamMahajan abusive. Why this biased behaviour @Twitter ? #BringBackSonamMahajan you are a democratic platform https://t.co/n1b3thMCSm

Shocked. @TwitterIndia suspends Sonam Mahajan [ @AsYouNotWish ]. Her fault? She stood up for India against Islamists. #BringBackSonamMahajan

“Shame on @Raheelk & @TwitterIndia for suspending RWs speaking their mind. Days are not far; people will suspend you than you suspending them”, one Twitter user wrote.
.@Ra_Bies @Raheelk @TwitterIndia How can Raheel keep suspending Hinduvadis? Are there no Hindu employees in Twitter India?

@Ra_Bies @Raheelk @TwitterIndia it’s scary when an India hating Islamist is appointed as head of india wing of a company.

One particular Twitter user asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ban the National Head. “@narendramodi consider banning Raheel Khursheed @twitter fm india if rw accts like @isonammahajan are not given equal freedom of expression,” the tweet read.
@Ra_Bies I stayed away from @Twitter all this while, cos am sure @Raheelk manipulates @TwitterIndia against SM rules, to suit his prejudice

The hate messages on Twitter increased to an exponential level, and Raheel Khursheed finally had to respond. He stated, “For the 1 millionth time – I lead News Partnerships at Twitter. Pls direct all ur concerns re account suspensions to @TwitterSafety! Thanks.”

While the backlash continues on social media, there is another theory behind the ban of Sonam Mahajan from Twitter. The Twitter user had once posted that her account may be suspended, as she struck a wrong chord with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. So while speculations on the ban of Sonam Mahajan continue, other users have been re-sharing her initial post on Zarqa Wasim and challenging Twitter India to ban them as well. Probably her mother’s stand was the real reason why Zaira Wasim was trolled for sharing the stage with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
With both the Twitter accounts blocked, Sonam Mahajan has said goodbye to social media for now through her Facebook page.
Do you think Twitter should ban and block accounts like these?
