Dubai: Reminding citizens to stay home amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, lit up with a message ‘Stay Home… Stay Safe, on Monday night. Also Read - 'Stay Strong': Dubai's Burj Khalifa Lights Up in Red to Express Solidarity With China Over Coronavirus

The video showing the message was posted on Burj Khalifa’s official Twitter account and the #StayHome campaign has now gone viral, encouraging citizens and residents to help halt the spread of the virus and break the chain of transmission.



The plea comes after Ministry of Interior and the National Emergency and Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, urged everyone to stay at home, and step out only in cases of necessity, including getting essential supplies, such as food and medicine, or performing jobs.



The Burj Khalifa first lit up to support China last month, during therst outbreak of coronavirus at the epicentre in Wuhan, China.

On Monday, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, issued a powerful message to the public and told everyone to “urgently recognise the serious of the new reality we live in”.

In a strongly-worded message, he further said, ”The only way to guarantee that we safeguard the wellbeing of our loved ones is to ACT now, TOGETHER and WITHOUT exceptions. Stay Home. Social Distancing is NOT a matter of choice. it is a critical DEMAND from every one of us, in order for our city and our society to remain safe”.
