However, on Thursday, a day after the viral video, Ghaziabad Police refuted the woman’s allegations as “false”, and claimed that she was “mentally challenged”.

A senior official said the video was shot by a passerby in an area under the Lal Kuan police outpost in Ghaziabad, adding a police team escorted the woman away from the spot and called her family members who revealed that she is mentally challenged and has a habit of making such allegations after disappearing from home.

“Her brother told us that she is undergoing treatment and is mentally challenged, and that she unmindfully levels allegations on anybody,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Wave City) Poonam Mishra told news agency PTI.

“The allegations she was making in the video are false,” the officer said, adding the woman’s brother and other family members told police that she has fled home many times.

The ACP said the woman has been rescued in the past from various places in Uttarakhand, including Haridwar, Roorkee and Tehri.

She was handed over to her family after proper investigation, the officer said.
