Wuhan: As China continues to deal with the coronavirus epidemic, many hospitals in the country have now turned to technology and deployed robots to assist medical teams. Multiple videos have emerged on social media where robots are being used to deliver food and medicines to patients infected by the novel coronavirus. These robots which are equipped with a camera, microphone and stethoscope, ensures that the patient is able to to consult with health providers without coming into direct contact with them. Local media has reported that medical robots and catering service robots are now being actively used in hospitals in cities like Guangzhou, Jiangxi, Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin. As per a report in The Medical Device, these robots are loaded up with medicines and given instructions of where in the hospital to go to, and then head to their destination unaided. More so, they’re able to open and close doors and take the lift without any human assistance. Robotics are also being used for disinfection purposes, as many of them use pulsed xenon ultraviolet-C (UVC) light to wipe out pathogens. Keeping workers safe from cross infection, the robot can clean a room in as little as five minutes.

More so, robots are also deployed to patrol the streets and hospital corridors.
As per reports, China is allegedly using drones too to keep a watchful eye over its residents, to ensure they’re taking the appropriate precautions to keep the coronavirus at bay. The drones are also being used to measure residents’ temperatures, without endangering medical staff.
More than 900 people have now died in China from the coronavirus that emerged in the central city of Wuhan at the end of last year.
