A viral video of a British man’s encounter with a deadly octopus is grabbing all the attention online. The video shows a man handling a baby octopus on a beach in the Philippines. The man shared the video with a caption, a part of which was, “Exploring the world alone, 11,000 km from home, inevitably involves taking risks. But nothing as extreme as apparent brush with death yesterday, which was both inadvertent & to which I was entirely oblivious until I posted about it.” It signifies that the man was completely unaware of the fact that the octopus he was handling was poisonous.

The video shows the man with the Instagram handle ‘decanterman’ handling small octopus with his hand in the water. He shared it with a long caption which included, “Turns out that it was a blue-ringed octopus, instantly recognisable to Aussies & others as the world’s first / second / third most venomous animal!”

The video shared by Andy McConnell has shocked everyone on the internet. He’s a British television personality whose Instagram is filled with his beach encounters. After posting this video, he realised the great mess he had saved himself from. The comment section alerted him about the animal’s name, blue-ringed octopus, which is one of the most poisonous octopuses in the world. The blue-ringed octopus has a deadly toxin in the body which is lethal. The most shocking revelation is that, as per the National Library of Medicine, the octopus’s venom is nearly 1,000 times deadlier than cyanide.
