Even though Spain coach Vicente del Bosque was under huge pressure to ring in a victory after the disastrous 5-1 defeat to Netherlands in their first match at the FIFA World Cup 2014, he could not perform in the Spain vs Chile game in Estadio Maracana, Rio de Janeiro.
It was a big disappointment for defending champions Spain, as they became the first title holders to be eliminated from the first stage of the FIFA World Cup after being defeated by Chile with a score of 0-2.
Spain crashed out after its second defeat. Good news for Chile, as it was their first victory over the Spanish in 11 matches. Chile pulled off the unexpected victory over Spain with 2-0 credited to Charles Aranguiz and Eduardo Vargas. Chile will play against the Netherlands to decide top place in Group B on June 23.
