No, he hasn’t watched it yet as the movie released on February 21. But the idea of a gay rom-com has impressed him. But the credit to reach the Bollywood movie to the Oval Office doesn’t quite go to the production team. Human Rights campaigner and LGBTQ+ activist Peter Tatchell posted on Twitter praising the theme of the movie.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is a gay romance between Kartik (Ayushmann) and Aman (Jitendra Kumar). The movie revolves around their struggle as they strive for social acceptance.
However, the retweet surprised the entire world as Donald Trump is not really known as an LGBTQ+ sympathiser. Even Peter Tatchell, who got retweeted by Trump, said that he ‘loathes’ Trump.
As US media and mediapersons are speculating whether Trump’s tweet was a publicity stunt to impress India ahead of his maiden visit, Peter Tatchell hoped that it was Trump’s genuine embrace of LGBTQ+ rights.
Whatever the case, Ayushmann Khurrana gets the cake and eats it.
