When the ardent fans of Game of Thrones plugged in to watch the fourth episode of the last season on Monday morning in India, they noticed something that has now become the funniest thing online. After the hullaballoo, people associated with the show talked to the media and took the error lightly. HBO joined others in mocking its own show and released an official statement saying, “The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.” Even the executive producer on the show, Bernadette Caulfield, joined the fun and said, “Westeros was the first place to have Starbucks, it’s a little-known fact. If that’s the worst thing that they’re finding, we’re in good shape.” However, one of the art directors on the show, Hauke Richter, told Variety that it’s just an innocent mistake and things should not be ‘blown out of proportion.’ “Things can get forgotten on set,” he said. It is visible that the team of the popular fantasy series failed to observe the error in the footage before it got aired. The viewers didn’t though. Social media is filled with memes and jokes about the scene that has the coffee cup lying proudly on the table in front of the dragon queen. While everyone else seemed busy taking a dig at the production for giving the show a modern-day touch, Starbucks saw it as an opportunity to pitch-in its products for promotion. Making sure its stance on the issue didn’t go unnoticed, Starbucks acknowledged the show’s mistake and tweeted, “TBH we’re surprised she didn’t order a Dragon Drink.” (sic)
