A message is doing rounds on the social media that can worry all WhatsApp users. The viral message claims that the admins of WhatsApp groups need to be officially registered by October 15 as per the order issued by the Government of India, and people who don’t get registered within the stipulated time will have to face legal consequences. The message says that the District Magistrate of Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind has issued an order making registration of the group mandatory. For registeration, they need to submit their details at the district collector’s office. The media team reached Bhind and approached the District Magistrate and Collector Ashish Kumar to check whether the message is true or is just another one of the social media hoaxes. Kumar informed that the message is only for the media groups which need to get themselves registered with a person fixed by the department.

So, therefore, the registeration of WhatsApp group admins is mandatory in Bhind, only for media groups. The general public is off the hook as the central government has issued no such order.
