Following the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on Jayshree Gayatri Food Products Private Limited on Wednesday, Payal Modi, the wife of the company’s director, Kishan Modi, reportedly attempted suicide. According to the news report in The Fress Press Journal, Payal allegedly consumed poison at her Shahpura residence in Bhopal on Thursday evening.

At present, she is receiving treatment at a private hospital. It is reported that she left a suicide note before consuming the poison. In her suicide note, Payal named several individuals linked to Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party, holding them accountable for her actions.

In her suicide note, Payal stated that Chandraprakash Pandey and his brother Vedprakash Pandey from the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) had stolen from their company. She mentioned that although a case was filed against them, they evaded consequences using their political influence. As a result, agencies like EOW, FSSAI, CGST, and now the ED have taken action against their company.

“Chandraprakash Pandey and his brother Vedprakash Pandey of LJP had committed theft in our company. A case was also registered regarding this, but the duo escaped using their political influence. As a result, EOW, FSSAI, CGST, and now ED are taking action against our company,” Payal wrote in her suicide note, The Fress Press Journal reported. She claimed that her husband, Kishan Modi, received multiple death threats. Furthermore, the continuous harassment left her with no option other than to kill herself. Sunil Tripathi, Bhagwan Singh Mewada, and Hitesh Punjabi are some of the other names that she mentioned in her suicide note.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate, Bhopal, conducted search operations on January 29, 2025, under the provisions of PMLA, 2002, at various premises situated in Bhopal, Sehore and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh in the matter of M/s Jayshri Gayatri Food Products Pvt. Ltd. During the search operations, various incriminating documents, cash amounting to Rs. 25 lakh, luxury cars viz. BMW and Fortuner, and documents pertaining to immovable assets/properties worth more than Rs. 66 crore in the name of various companies and family members of Kishan Modi were found and seized. Movable assets in the form of fixed deposits (FDs) of around Rs. 6.26 crore were also frozen.

As per the Navbharat Times Hindi report, Payal Modi has alleged that Chandra Prakash Pandey is Chirag Paswan’s brother-in-law, and Ved Prakash Pandey is his younger brother. She claims that they are leveraging Chirag Paswan’s influence to harass her family. According to her, they have committed theft in her company, and an FIR has been filed against them, but no action has been taken. She further stated that her factory and residence are being raided by CGST, EOW, ED, and FSSAI.
