Menstrual Hygiene Day is an annual awareness day which is celebrated on May 28 every year to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management (MHM). Also known as MHD, MH Day, or Menstrual Health Day, it was first initiated by the German-based NGO WASH United in 2014 which aims to benefit women across the globe. MHD is meant to serve as a platform to bring together individuals, social businesses, organisations, and the media to create a united and strong voice for women and girls around the world, helping to break the silence about menstrual hygiene management.

On this fourth menstrual hygiene day, Miss World Manushi Chillar participated in a half marathon in Delhi to raise awareness and funds for menstrual health and hygiene. With the theme ‘No more Limits’, the NDMC and AAKAR India organised the marathon on the World Menstrual Health Day. Chillar met NDMC school students to interact and raise awareness about menstrual hygiene. Apart from Manushi, chairperson Julia Morley, Guinness book record holder Roop Batela and about 300 school girls walked from Connaught Place to NDMC auditorium at 7 am.
The reigning Miss World conducted a quiz and discussed menstrual hygiene with students which were followed by free distribution of AAKAR Innovations sanitary pads. The students gathered at the central park in Connaught Place and carried placards which read, ‘Let’s be period positive’, ‘We bleed so mankind can thrive’.
The World Menstrual Hygiene Day is a global platform that brought together all the key development partners including United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Water Aid, Global Citizen, and United States Agency For International Development (USAID), as per AAKAR’s official statement.
