World’s longest train journey: The Indian Railways, the world’s fourth largest railway network, operates around 13,000 passenger trains per day, ferrying millions of travelers to their destinations, with journeys lasting from a few hours to a day or even two days in a some cases. But did you know that the world’s longest train journey, an experience that takes the traveler across as many as 13 countries, lasts a whopping 21 days?
The world’s longest train journey is not an inter-city ride or even a intercountry trip, rather its an intercontinental voyage, spanning 18,755 kilometers (11,654 miles) across 13 different countries. The journey commences from Algarve in Portugal and ends in Singapore, crossing 13 countries and traversing through iconic cities including Paris, Moscow, Beijing, and Bangkok.
The journey takes 21 days to complete, including overnight stops and visa checks. However, bad weather and other unforeseen circumstances can extend the travel time even further.
The world’s longest train journey from Portugal to Singapore is in essence an experience in itself, offering travelers to visit as many as 13 countries, including pain, France, Russia, China, Vietnam, and Thailand, on a single ticket.
According to various media reports, a one-way journey on this train costs just $1350 (around Rs 115496), making it arguably one of the cheapest options for intercontinental travel from Europe to Asia in a pocket-friendly way.
The train has a fully-stacked kitchen, a pantry, and an onboard diner which serves cuisines from across the world to passengers. However, before hoping onto the world’s longest train ride, travelers must ensure to carry all the necessary documents, including visas of different countries, etc. to avoid any hurdles during the journey.
Notably, the world’s longest train journey is not one continuous train ride, but combines various train lines and services across Europe and Asia.
