Wriddhiman Saha became the talk of the town on day four of the first Test between South Africa and India when he took four catches to complete ten dismissals in the match, most by an Indian wicketkeeper. He surpassed former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record of nine dismissals. MS Dhoni had achieved this feat against Australia in 2014. As soon as Wriddhiman Saha achieved this feat Twitter went crazy applauding the young cricketer and sending congratulatory messages his way. Wriddhiman Saha had taken five catches during the first innings of South Africa and took another five in the second innings. Wriddhiman Saha surpassed MS Dhoni, one of India’s most successful captain and wicketkeeper by breaking his record of 9 dismissals in a Test. MS Dhoni had previously broken the record of Nayan Mongia who had eight dismissals as a record to his name which he achieved playing against Pakistan in 1999. With this 10 dismissals in a Test match Wriddhiman Saha also went past Farokh Engineer’s 82 dismissals to become the 5th most successful wicketkeeper of India. However, he took only 60 innings to achieve this feat whereas Farokh Engineer took 83 winnings. Wriddhiman Saha also broke MS Dhoni’s record of nine dismissals in a single Test match which he achieved in his last Test whereas Wriddhiman Saha has a long career in Test ahead of himself.
