Initially, neither Buffett nor Gates were interested in meeting, but later on they found common ground discussing business insights.
Gates joined the board of Berkshire Hathaway in 2004, after the death of Buffett's first wife.
Buffett committed to giving 99% of his wealth to philanthropy, with the Gates Foundation being the primary beneficiary.
Before and during the COVID-19 pandemic Gates and Buffett were often seen spending time together in casual settings.
In recent years, Buffett became concerned that the Gates Foundation had grown too bureaucratic, according to a NYT report.
After the divorce of Gates and his wife, Buffett resigned from the Gates Foundation's board, stating that his involvement was not necessary to achieve its goals.
Buffett also declared that his donations to the foundation would cease after his death.
In 2023, Buffett outlined his plans for wealth distribution, allocating his remaining Berkshire shares to his three children rather than the Gates Foundation.
By 2023, Gates did not mention Buffett in his posts, and his few references in 2024 have been limited to philanthropy.
