The IMD has predicted heavy rains and thunderstorms on Friday, bringing respite from the scorching heat.
The weather office has predicted partly cloudy skies with possibility of thunderstorms in a few places in the evening on Friday.
Moreover, the IMD has predicted the advancement of southwest monsoon into more parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.
The IMD said monsoon is expected reach Delhi around June 30, while Rajasthan may get monsoon rains after July 5.
The arrival of monsoon is crucial for India as it brings nearly 70 per cent of the rain that is needed for farming, water bodies.
Meanwhile, the Met Department identified a cyclonic circulation positioned over Northeast Assam and its surrounding regions.
The weather office said extreme heavy rainfall is likely in West Bengal and Sikkim today.
Heavy rainfall is expected in Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Nagaland for a couple of days.
Lightning and thunderstorms is likely to hit Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand for next four days.
The IMD has issued an alert of rain for Odisha from June 14 to June 17.
