9 Rare images of galaxies taken by NASA
Two Spiral Galaxies in Canis Major: Two spiral galaxies, in constellation Canis Major, drift past each other like ships gliding through the night. This near collision was captured by the Hubble Space Telescope.
NGC 2090 - A Flaky Disc: NGC 2090 is a spiral galaxy which is located in the constellation Columba. This galaxy played a crucial role in fine-tuning the Tully-Fisher method, which helps measure the Hubble constant.
Centaurus A (NGC 5128): It is renowned for its dark, dusty lanes cutting across its structure.
Arp 148: Arp This ring-shaped galaxy is accompanied by an elongated companion. This dramatic collision created a shockwave, first pulling matter inward to the center before spreading it outward in a ring-like structure, leaving behind the elongated "tail."
UGC 10214: Also known as the Tadpole Galaxy, it appears to streak across space with a long tail of stars. Its unusual shape is caused by the gravitational pull of a nearby smaller galaxy.
NGC 1275: Hubble Space Telescope captured an image of NGC 1275, showcasing reddish filaments suspended around the galaxy’s core. These filaments showcases how energy flows from the central black hole to the surrounding hot gas.
NGC 922: A Cosmic Bullseye: This galaxy showcases a bright pink ring-shaped nebula encircling a warped spiral galaxy. This structure was formed 330 million years ago when a smaller galaxy collided with NGC 922.
Stephan’s Quintet: Also known as Hickson Compact Group 92, this group appears to feature five galaxies. One of these galaxies, NGC 7320, is actually much closer to Earth - seven times nearer than the others.
NGC 7049: Located in the Indus constellation, astronomers study its globular clusters to unravel the history and evolution of this galaxy.
