West Bengal Lok Sabha Election 2024: BJP-TMC Workers Clash In Cooch Behar, CRPF Jawan Found Dead

As the voting began, some of the BJP-TMC workers clashed in West Bengal's Cooch Behar constituency and stone pelting was also from both the sides and one person got injured.

West Bengal Lok Sabha Elections 2024: In the first phase of the Lok Sabha Elections, polling started at West Bengal’s Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri at 7 AM. All these three Lok Sabha constituencies were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019.

At this time, West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) looks to set pace in the three North Bengal constituencies and on the other hand, the BJP also looks to retain their base and extend their tally of 18 seats out of the state’s 42 constituencies.

As the voting began, some of the BJP-TMC workers clashed in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar constituency and stone pelting was also from both the sides and one person got injured.

In the meantime, a paramilitary personnel was found dead after he slipped and fell in the washroom of a polling station in West Bengal, a report by India Today said.

The incident was reported at a polling station in Mathabhanga in Coochbehar, which is among the seats going to polls today.

It should be noted that the CRPF personnel was found dead just before voting started and he was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

It was reported that the CRPF personnel had slipped and fell in the washroom and suffered a head injury, said hospital sources citing preliminary information.

Polling in Coochbehar began this morning amid tight security. The BJP has fielded sitting MP Nisith Pramanik from this constituency while the Trinamool has fielded Jagadish Basunia to take on the Union Minister.
